Journaling is a useful cognitive behavior tool that combats stress and anxiety really well. The key is using journal prompts that are anchors in grounding your thinking patterns. I recommend a simple 3 prompt approach.

How am I, really?
This is a space for anything that comes up in your mind to land. Don’t reject anything that surfaces, acknowledge the thoughts and honor them by writing them down. This should be a free flowing, anything goes area, fully designed for a private release.

Where is my control?
Next, you want to identify the biggest challenge from your answer to the how am I question. and find your control. Where is your power in this? This challenges you not to focus on outside forces but internally on identifying your power and creating steps to stand in that power. This may not be an answer to the challenge but it what your power and control are to traverse through the challenge.

In spite of the challenges, you are facing, where do you still find gratitude in your life and within the challenging situation you are unpacking.
