It's been said that the only constant in life is change, change is inevitable. Change signifies growth and movement in our lives as well as serves as a reminder that stagnation is the nearest thing to death for the living. Transitions in life are comprised of so many emotions; joy, excitement, vulnerability, uncertainty, and anxiety. Changes of any type can elicit this emotional response, even positive external changes can be frightening. Being the founder of Heart 2 Heart Wellness Center and licensed therapist does not make me immune to any of those feelings. I have had major changes in my company in the last few months, let me fill you in.
I started Heart 2 Heart Wellness Center in 2012 with a vision to use holistic approaches to mental wellness, hence the name, but I began my work contracting with title one schools providing therapy interventions to children who otherwise would not be able to access the services. The company grew, more schools were added as well as outpatient services for children and adults and mentoring program for at risk girls. I loved my work but I hadn't started building the vision I had for my company yet.
So this summer, I took a major leap to expand the company and actualize my goal..it's terrifying!
Change is scary because the familiar is removed. To manage the stress of this major change in my life, I am finding that journaling my thoughts and feelings regularly is an anchor for me. It allows me the space to think through my thinking and be aware of what messages I'm reinforcing. When you're stressed, we typically latch onto the negative thoughts and discount the positive ones. Journaling makes you overtly aware of this pattern so you can combat it. So, I'm off on my new journey, managing the stress of change and sharing it here with you.
